Our Mission

Cornerstone Academy exists to provide students who need it, with an intentionally small Christina high school experience designed to provide them a personalized and comprehensive education leading towards a diploma, a Christian moral code, and tools for self-sufficiency.

Our History

We began in 1994 in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago as a response to the 70% drop out rate there.  In the year 2000 we moved to the new Cornerstone Center on the Near North Side of Chicago.  Here the school shares space with other not-for-profits that work with our students:  Discover Music Discover Life which provides much of our math and English enrichment coursework, Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago which provides weekly group counseling, and Young Life which provides Christian after-school programming.

In 2009 we began our Work Study Program, placing many of our students in one-day-per-week internships. Our business partners have included the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC), West Suburban Medical Center, Christopher B. Burke Engineering, and others.

Our Christian Identity

We teach from the vantage point of the Christian faith, and we hope our students find this clarifying and winning. Finally, we have Bible as a graduation requirement; we provide either chapel experiences or after-school programming to inspire students to seek God; and we, as staff, as the occasion may present itself, encourage our students to know, love, and obey God in their lives.

We also hire teachers committed to following Christ with the aim that they will be good moral and spiritual guides to our students.
