The Work Study Program

The Work Study Program places students at local job sites one day per week throughout the school year. The fee paid by the corporate sponsor accumulates in a general student tuition pool that offsets cost for the entire student body. The students gain valuable work experience, while the company receives entry-level support at a competitive price. It’s a win-win-win.

Relevant job skills, just part of learning.

How does it work for the student?

The student engages in job-sharing with one or two other students. Each student works one day per week, typically learning entry-level company-specific work. The students work standard daily business hours (approximately 8:30 am to 3:00 pm), and academic schedules are tailored around the work schedule. Each student works approximately four to five days per month.

The process is simple.

The sponsoring companies contract directly with the Work Study Program to fill part-time, entry level jobs in their offices. Because students are employees of the Work Study Program, all logistical details (payroll, W-4, I-9, Workers’ Compensation, FICA) and other employer issues are handled by the Work Study Program.

Benefits for students.

The Work Study Program helps students learn valuable employment skills while under the mentorship of both a workplace mentor and the weekly coaching support of the Cornerstone staff. The earned income accumulates in a general student tuition pool that offsets cost for the entire student body and makes a private education possible.
